A Solution for the turtles of Ontario

The first of its kind in Canada, Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary is the solution we’ve been waiting for: a place where the world’s most invasive turtles will have a place to live their best lives in peace.

Audrey's Legacy is a Little RESQ initiative

Audrey’s Legacy Turtle Sanctuary is an initiative brought to you by Little RESQ Reptile Shelter

It is fully funded by donations and built by volunteers. We receive no government funding for Little RESQ or Audrey’s Legacy.

Turtles Are Not Our Whole Life, but They Make Our Life Whole

Our Mission

As Little RESQ, we aim to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome reptiles in need. We work towards combating animal cruelty while educating at every opportunity. We hope to inspire stewardship and spark imagination to help the reptiles of Ontario and beyond.

We have built Audrey’s Legacy to allow us to:

How our turtle sanctuary helps

Abandoned pets can live their best lives

Red-eared slider turtles now have a space to call their own. Fully-stocked, aerated, and away from other turtle populations, these turtles will live their best lives for their entire lives.

Lessening the impact of invasive species on native turtle populations

By removing red-eared slider turtles out of Ontario’s native turtle populations, we’re allowing the endemic species a chance to bolster their populations without these highly invasive turtles working against them.

Minimize animal abuse & dumping by giving surrenders more options

Dumping red-eared slider turtles into Ontario’s ponds and water-ways is part of the problem we hope to solve with our turtle sanctuary.

Supporting other rescues by taking in turtles that cannot be cared for

Many of the rescues, humane societies, and other animal welfare groups in Ontario are not properly equipped to deal with red-eared sliders. We will be able to take on more transfers from other rescues.
