Our Plan for 2026

Building roads

Audrey's Legacy needs a road to help volunteers and caretakers to get around to the different ponds

Projected completion date:

Expanding Ponds

We're expanding the girls pond to give them 1/3 more room than before!

Projected Completion Date

Floating Islands

This year we're building some large floating islands for the turtles to safely climb onto and bask on during warm sunny days.

Projected completion date:

2026-2027

Greenhouses

Our greenhouses will be erected this spring!

Projected completion date:

Spring 2026

Phase one of the project involved installing the perimeter fence, security systems, and special climber proof animal inclusion fencing around the existing on-site ponds. The addition of flood control gates and aeration windmills controls water level, temperature, and oxygen levels, giving the turtles the best chance at living the best life in the sanctuary.

Phase two involved expanding and hardening the ponds, blazing new maintenance roads, and installing security systems to keep our pond inhabitants safe and healthy.

We are now entering phase three which involves constructing maintenance buildings to store equipment, greenhouses to grow food for the turtles, and eventually staff housing.

The project’s fully realized final phase will expand current ponds creating a massive multi-acre permanent home for Ontario’s non-native red-eared slider population. By providing such a large space for what are otherwise an invasive species, Little RES Q is helping to protect our native wildlife ecosystems.
